Confession of a Control Freak

Okay, I’ll admit it…I’m a closet control freak.  Can’t you tell by looking at my knuckles?  They are white from gripping on to MY plans, MY way and MY timing- how can I give up my control??  Anyone else willing to admit it?

Faith and control are like oil and water; they don’t mix.  In order to have faith you have to let go of control.  At one time or another we have all tried to control an outcome, our circumstances, or even another person.  The need to control is almost always driven  by anxiety and fear.  If we could direct the outcome, we would direct it in our favor and in a way that would always avert heartache or pain; and so we try. But what can we really control anyway?  Very little…..

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

So let’s release our grip on what we want, when we want it, and how we think we should get it.  Give your control to God; after all He is the best person for the job.  He has that sovereign thing going for Him.
