Dear Magic 8 Ball…

Dear Magic 8 Ball….

Remember that fortune telling toy from way back when?  We knew the Magic 8 Ball was just a toy, but the part of us that fears the unknown, secretly hoped it gave us real answers to our real-life questions.

“I’ve got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.” –  Larry Bird

We would give anything to know what is going to happen in the end.  That’s the reason why the Magic 8 ball toy was so popular.  The above quote reminds me that I have no way to predict the future, but I do have control over how hard I work and the effort that I put forth toward my endeavors.  I tend to agree with Larry Bird and think that if I give 100% and go all out, something good is bound to happen.

We only have a limited time here on earth to get things accomplished. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”(Ecclesiastes 9:10)

We should pursue all avenues of interest and persevere until the desired results are achieved. Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another–or maybe both.” (Ecclesiastes 11:6)

Don’t worry about the outcome, but do the best you can do and let God assist you.  Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (Philippians 4:6)

I had a list of questions to be answered by my Magic 8 ball:  Will my project this weekend be successful?  Will I get married again?  Where will I live next year?  But I have crumpled up that paper and thrown it away.  I’ve decided to just give 100% to whatever opportunities I have, and let God take care of the rest.  He promises to help us succeed! “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
