Peace Comes From Trust

You will keep in perfect peace

I have been struggling to find some peace in my daily life.  It seems that no matter how much I plan ahead or how hard I work, there is a point in my day where chaos erupts and I get so stressed out.  The fact that I’m raising an infant and a 3 year old is part of this dilemma.  Small children can really try your patience!  But we all deal with demands and situations that can rob us of our peace and cause us to live in chaos.stress

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”  Isaiah 26:3

Scripture tells us that when we fix our mind on God, He will give us peace. But when we are suddenly thrown into a stressful situation, how can we make sure that we do not rashly act on our emotions, but focus on God?  We can pray.  Something as simple as, “Lord, help me” will be heard.  For living in us is the Holy Spirit, who helps us in our weakness.  Even when we don’t know what to pray for, the Spirit himself will intercede for us.  (Romans 8:26)

Once our mind is focused, we then have to trust that God will work out the situation according to his will. (Romans 8:28)  Having faith in God’s sovereignty will yield us with His perfect peace.  He may immediately calm the storm, or just give us the patience we need to endure.  Regardless of what chaos is going on around us, we can have peace knowing that there is no situation that we are in that has not passed through the hands of God.

What situations or people tend to cause you stress or chaos?  Pray for your mind to be focused on God as you face the demands of each day.  Read Philippians 4:6-7 to study more on God’s peace.
