Years ago when my oldest daughter was in middle school, I decided to apply her to an academically rigorous magnet school. I was thrilled when she got accepted. However, the feeling was not mutual and the news was met with tears because she wanted to attend a neighborhood school with her friends. Now that she is in college, she is grateful for that experience. Hindsight is 20/20.
Now I am going back to the one who sent me. And none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But you are filled with sadness because I have told you all this. Let me assure you, it is better for you that I go away. I say this because when I go away I will send the Helper to you. But if I did not go, the Helper would not come. (ERV)
When Jesus told his disciples that He will be leaving, they were upset. They were grieving what they were losing, instead of rejoicing about what they would be gaining. The disciples could not understand that letting go of Jesus’ physical presence would bring the Holy Spirit. This would benefit not only them, but the whole world. Something better awaited them!
As we continue to grow spiritually, God will call us to new places. What are you clinging to that prevents you from going?
Prayer: Lord, help us to see past our current situation to the destination that you have prepared for us.
